What is Angel's Place?

Angel's Place is a safe haven for abused, traumatised, and neglected children, functioning under the auspices of the Roodepoort Child and Family Welfare Society.

Angel's Place is not an institution, but a proper home where children who have been exposed to horrendous circumstances, receive the love, warmth, attention, guidance, and security they need to become whole. The children learn that they matter, that they are special, and that each of them has an important purpose in life. In order that they may learn to fulfil their purpose and potential, they are helped and encouraged to grow and develop spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally and socially. The warm and stable home environment of Angel's Place furthermore helps them cope with the inevitable trauma accompanying the pending court cases.

Our aim is to open more homes like Angel's Place and to start up a feeding scheme for parents with small children.

How did Angel's Place start?

Angel's Place is our Heavenly Father's project. He brought to our attention the terrible reality that thousands of South African children are abused or neglected by the very people supposed to love and protect them. These children may only be placed in foster care once a court ruling has been issued. While the legal proceedings are still pending, they need to be accommodated and cared for in a safe environment. So great is the demand for places of safety for these children, that they are often temporarily housed in police station cells or sent back to the very environment they urgently need to be rescued from. To help provide in this need, Angel's Place was founded in September 2006. We look back in awe at what the Lord has done in the words of Isaiah 41:20, "so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it."

Our vision

  • To provide a loving, caring home where children are accepted as they are.

  • To help these children feel safe and secure, and to teach them about trust.

  • To develop our children into adults who are able to make a positive difference in their world.

To see a child turned away is absolutely heartbreaking!

What do we offer our children at Angel's Place?

We do everything in our power to help our children achieve complete healing and discover and grow into God's purpose for their lives. To the best of our ability we provide for them spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, and socially.

  • Spiritually:

    • We pray for and with the children.

    • We encourage them to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and to grow in their relationship with Him.

    • We teach our children to live according to Biblical values and in obedience to God.

  • Emotionally:

    • We care for our children in a loving, stable home environment.

    • We accept and love them unconditionally.

    • Our children are counselled by competent people.

  • Physically:

    • The children are provided with clothing and three balanced meals a day.

    • They are transported to and from school and extramural activities.

    • The home has a play room with toys and a garden with a trampoline.

    • Medical and dental needs are provided for.

  • Mentally:

    • We provide in our children's needs for school equipment.

    • We help them with homework and school assignments.

    • We encourage them to take pride in their school work and to perform academically to the best of their ability.

  • Socially:

    • We arrange birthday parties and outings for our children.

Why is Angel's Place a small home, rather than a large institution?

Firstly, a smaller setup makes it easier to give individual attention and care, which is particularly important to severely traumatised children. Secondly, problems are detected and addressed more effectively in a small, intimate environment. And thirdly, in such an environment it is easier to match children with possible foster patents.
